Lights, Camera, Photos!
All the visitors to the recently held photography exhibition 'A Wall of Hope and Joy' by The Akshaya Patra Foundation experienced one thing in common— A walk down memory lane into their childhood. A colourful display of innocent smiles filled their hearts with joy as they discovered that there is hope for all the beneficiaries of Akshaya Patra. Every visitor was also appreciative of the images that described the operations in all Akshaya Patra kitchens. The images of massive equipment, kitchen staff and delivery vans provided a virtual tour to the viewer through our day-to-day operations.
The exhibition was inaugurated by dignitaries from Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (CKP) — B.L. Shankar, President; D.K. Chowta, General Secretary; Kamalesh, Assistant Secretary and Professor J.M. Kamalakshi, Former Joint Secretary of CKP. The two-day event attracted over 250 visitors, some of whom were Akshaya Patra supporters and donors. While donors were enthralled to see that their contributions were bringing those smiles on children, first-time visitors were impressed with our work. Some even expressed their interest in becoming part of the organisation by offering to volunteer.
The visitors left us with a lot of positive testimonies. Pushpa Hari, who has been a supporter of Akshaya Patra, said in her testimony, "It's a very good organisation. We have been supporting their cause for years now. They are feeding poor children and supporting their education while maintaining transparency in operations. We don't have second thoughts while extending our support to Akshaya Patra."
The exhibition also had a lot of student groups coming in. Chandan U, Juan de Dios (from Mexico) and Yiztsing Chen (from Malaysia) who are students of photography, were of the opinion that the exhibition sent "beautiful messages about pure children. Akshaya Patra should continue the good work". A visitor of European origin, Claire Cotillon said, "Their wealth is their smile." The exhibit was a great opportunity for the organisation to spread its message and to create awareness among the urban masses.
